WATERVILLE, Maine – The field hockey team enters the week ranked 20th nationally in the most recent NFHCA Coaches' Poll. Colby last appeared in the nation's top 20 back in 2003 when they spent a few weeks at #19.
The Mules have started the season strong, opening play with a 2-1 win over Connecticut College before taking their next game against cross-town rival Thomas College, 6-2. The team followed up with a 3-1 home victory over Trinity College, which was ranked #15 at the time.
First-year Kaitlyn Smith leads the team in points, tallying three goals and an assist so far in her rookie year. Her efforts against Thomas and Trinity also earned her recognition as Synapse Sports' Division 3 rookie of the week. Lauren Walter, Georgia Cassidy, Emily Hogan, and Eliza Mell have also amassed points for Colby, while Emily Buckman has been stingy in net, especially in conference play.
The team will be tested this weekend when it heads to Tufts and Wesleyan for back-to-back conference games. The Jumbos, ranked #3 in the country, are also undefeated on the season.
