Golfers defeat Bates and Bowdoin, take seventh at league qualifier

NEWINGTON, Conn. -- The Colby College golf team finished seventh overall and beat both Bates College and Bowdoin College in the NESCAC Fall Qualifier for the first time since 2011.
Colby first-year Jack Griffith led the way with a 76 on Sunday for a two-day total of 157 at the Indian Hill Country Club. He finished in a tie for 18th place.
The Mules took ninth place the past three years. Colby also finished seventh in 2012 and 2013. The Mules beat Bates and Bowdoin in 2011 when the team placed sixth.
Four of Colby's five golfers had better scores Sunday to help the team pass Bates for seventh place. The Mules were four strokes in back of the Bobcats after Saturday's opening round. Colby ended up with a 662 total to edge Bates (664). 
Elliot Snow had a 79 on Sunday and was tied for 29th with a 163 finish. Michael Broucek was consistent with an 82 and an 83 for a 165 total and a 33rd-place finish.
