All-NESCAC player McBrian to lead men's squash in his final season

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College men's squash player Will McBrian (Dedham, Mass.) will be the lone captain for the Mules a year after earning the rare trifecta as all-conference, all-academic, and all-sportsmanship.

McBrian was one of only five New England Small College Athletic Conference winter sport student-athletes to earn all three league honors. He returns as the Mules' number one player and an All-NESCAC First Team selection last year after making the second team in his first two seasons.

Colby, under head coach Sakhi Khan, opens the 2017-18 season at home against Connecticut College on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The top nine

* McBrian (pictured) went 13-13 last year at the tough first position and has 38 career victories.

* Ben Kwass (Andover, Mass.), another senior, will move up to the second spot and has a 25-22 career record.

* Elliot Gross (Penn Valley, Pa.) will miss the first semester of play while studying abroad, but should play in the third position when he returns. He had 10 wins a year ago.

* Will Pepi (New York, N.Y.) starts the season in the third spot after playing positions four to six last year. He went 14-12 overall, including an 11-9 record at the fifth position.

* First-year players Alex Kurtin (Natick, Mass.) and Chase Holding (Wellesley, Mass.) will begin the season with important spots at four and five.

* Jason Brodo (Penn Valley, Pa.) won 10 matches last year while mainly playing at six and will stay at that position to start the year.

* Andrew Swapp (Andover, Mass.) brings experience at the seventh spot for the Mules, while Charlie Beauregard (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) starts the year at eight. Matt Epstein (Dover, Mass.), who went 14-10 last year, is in the ninth position.

* First-years Alex Jafry (Bolton, Mass.), Gautam Mitra (Medford, Mass.), and Will Palmieri (South Salem, N.Y.) will try to break in the top nine as will senior Tommy Chandler (Lake Forest, Ill.). First-year James Darling (New York, N.Y.) is studying abroad for the first semester.
