Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Soccer team fell to #22 ranked Williams 1-0 on Homecoming Weekend. The Mules fall to 3-4-2 while the Ephs improve to 6-2-1.
Williams entered the game scoring 10 goals in their last three contests in the midst of a three-game win streak. Colby has been known this season for playing stiff defense and tallying five shutouts on the year behind all-league caliber goalie Shannon Gray. When these two forces met in front of a Homecoming crowd on Mayflower Hill, something had to give.
The game lived up to expectations, with Williams placing shot after shot on goal. From the opposite side, Gray knocked away all shots she saw (seven saves) and fellow keeper Dani Lonati saved all but one shot. The game-decider came early on as Rain Condie scored her second goal of the season off an assist by Aspen Pierson. The goal 16 minutes in proved to be the decider.
Williams led in shots 19-5 and corners 7-0. Colby does a great job of staying committed to their identity, a strong defensive team that makes the most of their scoring opportunities. This is the type of team that can be dangerous on a playoff run.
The Mules are back in action Wednesday at 3:00 PM when they host Husson University on Faculty Appreciation Day.
